参加作家紹介：窪田孟恒『お便り画』
『なんだかしっくり来なくてね。描きなおそうかと思うんですよ』そういう窪田さんに
『きっと描こうとするとできないと思います』と伝えました。
杏の里で杏染めを生業とする窪田孟恒さん。
季節の挨拶や、展示会のお礼に添えて
誰かに宛てて書かれた文字と画は、
大勢に見せようと思って描かれた訳ではないから、逆に心が動かされる。
そういうことって、あると思います。
爽やかな筆致、透明感のある色、自身を鼓舞する言葉。
窪田さん自身のようなお便り画を、
今回は、特別にお願いして展示させて頂くこととなりました。
ガラス越しではなんだか物足りなくて、琴の材料である桐の板を額に見立てました。
“I’m not so sure about this. Maybe I’ll draw once again?” asks Kubota.
To which I said, “I don’t think you can capture the same essence when you try to draw.”
Taketsune Kubota is a dyer. He uses apricot trees from his neighbouring field, called the Apricot Village.
His drawings, Picture Letters as named by yours truly, were never meant to be shown to the public, but to accompany his seasonal greetings, a letter of gratitude for his friends and customers.
His cloudless brush strokes, words of encouragement, and translucent colours…
It was always meant to be for someone, and that is what moves us.
This exhibition marks the first time to exhibit such works of him, and I’m tremendously honoured by it.
I didn’t want a glass sheet to get in the way, so I prepared paulownia wood as a frame for each piece, which was originally stored in my father’s workshop.
