参加作家紹介：岸田加奈子 『藍染めのブローチ』
「5メートル続けるうちにようやく手が動くようになった！」とは
1枚目の写真「蜘蛛入り柳絞り」について教えてくれたときの話です。
使い手から、つくり手に… とはまさに岸田さんのこと。
美術工芸に詳しい友人に導かれ、いつのまにか
身の回りにあるたくさんの工芸品に自身でも取り組むように。
絞り染めの小川裕恵先生に出逢い、ぐっと絞りの世界に深く導かれていきます。
自宅に藍甕を置き、冬の寒い時期には
お湯を入れたペットボトルで温度管理。
自身は下戸なのに3リットルの酒パックを2本買って帰っては、
ご機嫌ナナメの❝藍ちゃん❞に飲ませるという…
「悪い人に引っかかったみたいですね」とよく笑いました。
展示会にはブローチをつくってもらいました…いえ、もらいます。
手塩にかけて育てられた藍ちゃんの機嫌が直っていることを願うばかりです。
“It took me all five meters before my hands finally got the knack for it. It started feeling right,” Kishida recalls of the time, in reference to the Spider-in-Willow Shibori pattern shown in the first photo.
From user to maker—that phrase fits her perfectly.
Guided by a friend knowledgeable in fine arts and crafts, she gradually encountered many artisans and began making and surrounding herself with handcrafted works.
But once introduced to shibori dyeing by master Hiroe Ogawa, she found herself drawn deeply into its world.
At home she even keeps an indigo vat, carefully tending its temperature in winter with hot-water bottles. Though she doesn’t drink herself, she would lug home two 3-litre cartons of sake to appease her often moody “Ai-chan” (her indigo-ai-vat). I used to laugh, saying, “It’s like you’ve fallen in with a bad crowd.”
For this exhibition, she has made brooches—or rather, is still making them. We can only hope Ai-chan, lovingly cared for all this time, will be in good spirits.
