参加作家紹介：ツグミノエダ 『縫いもの』
彼女が針と糸に出合って、日々布と対話をするうちに、天職に気づいてしまい、いつしか図書館の仕事も辞めてしまい、今のツグミノエダになるまでを、そばで見てきました。
使い込まれて柔らかくなった布が綻びそうなギリギリを
小さな宝石みたいな糸の玉が留めていく。
彼女の仕事は始めから素晴らしかったけれど、会うたびに次の世界を見せてくれる。
糸目をきれいに拾うことの次は、
縫われることによって現れる、収縮した布の凹凸で表現をしていたけど、
今はさらにその先を見ているのではないかな？という気もしています。
この展示に向けて届いたのはumiishiシリーズ。小田原美浜、キプロスの浜辺などから集まった石を型として、チクチクと包む布を縫い上げてくれました。ドライフラワーを窓辺に飾ったり、大切なお守りを入れたり。
シンプルに重ねた布に浮かび上がる美しい縫い目。「布/環」と名付けられたシリーズは、ぜひ窓辺に飾って。糸だけで表現される模様は実際にご覧いただけたらと思います。
布仕事じゃなくて、布の仕事。
布が仕事をするのを、針と糸を持つ人はただ待って、助けるだけ。
ただ待つって、難しい…ですよね。

Participating Artist: Tuguminoeda “Stitching”
I’ve watched her journey closely: from her encounter with needle and thread during the pandemic, how she immersed herself in conversations with fabric, which led her to realise her true calling, eventually leaving her work at the library…
Tuguminoeda’s threads, simmery like tiny jewels, bunch up and hold together the edges of fabric softened through years of use, just at the brink of fraying.
Her work was remarkable from the start, yet each time I see her, she reveals another world. First, it was the precision of picking up each stitch. Then, she began to explore the textures and contours created by the fabric’s natural shrinkage through stitching. Now, I feel she may be looking even further beyond that.
It isn’t simply working with fabric—it is allowing the fabric to work. The one holding the needle and thread only waits, and lends a hand when needed.
Simply waiting… isn’t that the hardest thing of all?
